Hands Across the Americas

Cusco Floods 2010

Hands Across the Americas is acting to help the thousands of families who lost everything as a result of the flooding outside of Cusco, Peru rebuild their lives. Since January, the Huatanay River flooded eight of the poorest cities near Cusco, Peru, leaving over 3,800 families homeless.  These families were caught by surprise and forced to leave all of their belongings behind, even pets, and are now living in 4x6 outdoor tents.  They desperately need our help!

Unfortunately, the Cusco floods happened around the same time as the natural disasters in Haiti and Chile, and therefore received minimal media attention and now the communities are not receiving the aid they need to rebuild.

Hands” Founder, Jennifer Diamond, was recently interviewed by a TV station in Cusco. She responded to the pleas for help by promising she would be back, but not with empty hands-- and told the people of Cusco that America is a kind and caring country whose spirit will help alleviate their pain.

While monetary donations are preferred, we are also seeking donations of all kinds- kitchen supplies, linens, clothing & shoes for all ages, monetary gifts, etc. Hands Across the Americas has several 40-foot containers that can be filled with donations and shipped to Cusco.

Donations can be shipped to:
